A BAUGHURST man has described his pain at living opposite an industrial site which he claims has left him breathing in "toxic fumes".

Stephen Fay, 40, from Stokes Lane, said his "pleasant tree-lined lane" was turned into an "eye sore of an industrial complex".

His complaint centres around land close to his home where there are two cottages and a unit being used as a construction storage unit in Baughurst.

He claimed the site used to be obstructed by trees but recently they had been cut back, exposing him to constant noises and dust from the building work.

He told The Gazette: "The tree line has been drastically cut back to reveal the eye sore of an industrial complex."

The Baughurst man continued: "We have to put up with industrial noise before permitted working hours, smoke from the burning of construction waste, construction dust and in winter, site lighting shining directly into our property from 6.30am."

He continued: "The tree lining not only disguised the unsightly use of what has become a sizable industrial unit, but also provided some protection from noise, dust and smoke which often come from the site, particularly in the summer.

"I can always hear loud drilling sounds throughout the day. There is lots of manufacturing noise and grinders.

"Even with the storage unit, you get burning of plastics and its toxic to breathe in.

"I've had to shut my windows and don't get out of the front of the house.

"Workers are cleaning down concrete from work and it kicks up a load of concrete dust. It lands on the front of the house and cars.

"This has been going on for two and a half years."

Stephen said he has raised concerns with Baughurst and Tadley North Councillor Warrick Lovegrove.

The engineer wants to urge the council to investigate.

"It causes a lot of emotions in the local community. It would make sense for it to be residential," he added.
