A HOLE in the road in Sutton is believed to have been caused by a collapsed sewer, say St Helens Council.
On Monday, reports came in about road closures on Watery Lane between the junctions with Worsley Brow and Berrys Lane after a large sink hole appeared in the road.
A council spokesperson said: "We were alerted to the issue on Monday afternoon and our crews have been out to survey the hole and put safety measures in place which means we have been able to reopen the road to traffic.
"We believe the hole is as a result of a collapsed sewer and we have passed on the issue to the relevant party to repair."
