THE Trust in charge of three hospitals in south Cumbria has announced that 268 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have been discharged.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust, which runs Furness General Hospital, Westmorland General and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, revealed the number of patients discharged from the trust as it thanked staff for their hard work.

The total number of deaths reported at the trust's hospitals is now 153, according to figures released by NHS England.

Meanwhile, there are 17 care homes in Cumbria with outbreaks.

There are 242 confirmed cases, including home care as well as residential and nursing homes), and 54 suspected cases. Since April 1 there have been 49 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and a further 89 suspected.

In England, a further 331 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus, died yesterday bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 22,049.
