AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl footballing ace has signed her first contract with Manchester United.

Georgie Clough, from Windle, has signed on the dotted line for the club's Under 10s girls, despite only being the age of eight.

The Bleak Hill Primary School pupil has been training with United since the age of six and is now old enough to sign a contract.

Although the coronavirus pandemic meant she was not ab le to go to Old Trafford for her signing day, it is hoped this will be rescheduled after the lockdown.

Georgie started playing football with the Diddy Kicks skills group in Clinkham Wood, before playing at Bleak Hill Rovers.

She then played for local teams Billinge Juniors and Falcon Athletic before being snapped up by the Red Devils, after she caught the attention of United.

She began training with the club and has now been offered her first contract.

"She is made up, I'm really proud of her and it is a testament to herself and her hard work," said dad John, 35.

Georgie comes from a family of sporting pedigree with her dad John a former Salford rugby league professional and she is also niece to former Saints forward Paul Clough, who now plays at Huddersfield Giants.

"It was a toss up between United and Liverpool, who made her an offer but she supports United," added John, also dad to Olivia, 14, and Lydia, five.

"She's a winger forward and she scores quite a few goals. She'll be moving up to seven-a-side from five-a-side and on to a bigger pitch.

"They normally do the signing at Old Trafford but hopefully they;'re going to reschedule."
