ST HELENS Council has blasted the “mindless vandalism” that has damaged Victoria Park’s tiger sculpture.
Reports were made to the Star and council that the wooden tiger and the drum at Victoria Park had been cut in an act of vandalism.
This is not the first time the structure has been vandalised.
A St Helens Council spokesperson said: “It is unbelievable that at this time someone decided to damage the wooden tiger sculpture in Victoria Park.
“This is a much loved sculpture for families who visit the park and those who have done this selfish act have upset those who look forward to seeing the tiger on their visit.
“Now more than ever people need to respect spaces like parks as they are essential for people looking to make the most of the fantastic venues to use for their one form of exercise a day on their doorstop safely.
“This mindless vandalism must have taken some time to commit and goes against the spirit of government guidance on social distancing. We’ll look to carry out repairs to the tiger as soon as we can.”
Usually at this time of year, St Helens’ community safety partners run the #Ready2Report campaign, encouraging residents to help prevent anti-social behaviour by reporting it.
This year residents are being asked to continue to support the campaign, but with a new message – #Ready2Respect.
