AMID the Covid-19, flood defences in North Wales have received a multi-million pound boost.
In response to the severe flooding events caused by Storms Ciara and Denis in February – which badly affect communities along the River Elwy and St Asaoh - the Welsh Government has unveiled the 2020/21 Flood Risk management plan.
Following an initial £3million, this latest raft of funding puts a £35 million capital investment programme, alongside more than £27 million revenue funding to support flood and coastal activities.
Vale of Clwyd AM said: Ann Jones AM said: “I am pleased to see the Government is continuing to invest in much needed flood defences. The devastating floods we had recently were a reminder of why we need this proactive approach to invest in flood management and do our best to mitigate and prevent flood events.
“ I know that locally councillors Barry Mellor and Reeve Turner have been working hard to ensure work starts on flood defences in East Rhyl."
