OPERATIC singer Tom Loughlin is going to once again sing to the community tonight for the Clap for Our Carers event at 8pm.

The country is being asked once again to go outside their homes, into their gardens or on their balconies at 8pm tonight, Thursday, April 2, to give key workers such as our NHS, emergency service staff and more a round of applause for their hard work amid the coronavirus crisis.

This is the second applause for carers, and last week 23-year-old Tom Loughlin from Garswood surprised his neighbours by taking his music equiptment outside and giving an outstanding operatic performance of Nessun Dorma.

This was also watch on Facebook Live on his Facebook page, with thousands reacting to his performance.

The trainee teacher, son of a former Saints player Paul, is aiming to perform once again tonight to mark the second Clap for Carers event - this time performing You'll Never Walk Alone.

He said: "The reaction has been amazing, I just wanted to do something nice to cheer on key workers and cheer up everyone stuck in on isolation as it's a really stressful time.

"Music really brings people together so I thought it was perfect really, and I chose Nessun Dorma because it means so much to so many people.

"I think my neighbours got a shock as all my music equipment was outside but they could all watch from a distance and I'm glad everyone enjoyed it.

"Because of the reaction I'm aiming to do it again tonight and perform You'll Never Walk Alone.

"I know it's a popular song in relation to football but that's not why I'm doing it, the lyrics are perfect for now because the key workers mean we are not alone and it mentions a golden sky after a storm, which is how I feel it will be when all of this is over.

"So neighbours can join me again tonight at a distance from their gardens and I will be Facebook Live videoing it again for everyone to enjoy.

"It's just about cheering everyone up really."

He will start the Facebook Live at 7.50pm ahead of the 8pm applause.
