RESIDENTS will join the nation once again tonight as part of the Clap For Our Carers campaign, recognising the efforts of NHS staff and other key workers who are helping the country deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week saw hundreds of thousands across the UK showing their appreciation at this unprecedented time.

In Leigh people stood at their doorsteps, on balconies or in gardens to applaud and cheer.

A message on the Clap For Our Carers website read: "Every Thursday evening at 8pm we’ll be standing up and applauding all those who care for us and are ensuring our world can keep on turning.

"We hope you will join with your family and neighbours in showing thanks to those whose work outside, means so many of us can be inside at home or can be looked after and supported with selfless dedication."

The event will take place weekly, on Thursdays at 8pm, to thank the key workers and deliver a morale boost to the country which continues to implement lockdown restrictions in an effort to dampen the spread of the virus.
