A MAN from St Helens was arrested in a garden after a police chase in the early hours of today, Friday.
Police pulled over a Ford Transit van at around 1.40am on the slip road of junction seven of the M62 at Rainhill.
They spotted it had false registration plates.
But a force spokesman said the vehicle sped off and a police pursuit followed.
The occupants dumped the van in Mitchell Lane in Burtonwood.
The spokesman added: "After conducting a search of the area, aided by a police helicopter, officers found a 30-year-old man from St Helens in a garden.
"He failed to provide a breath test and was arrested shortly after 2am.
"The man is currently in custody being questioned by officers."
