IN just a couple of weeks, COVID-19 has brought our country to its knees.

During these unprecedented times, when most of us can work from the safety of our home, it is vital to recognise the hospital staff on the frontline of this pandemic.

Healthcare and ancillary staff are returning to St Helens, Whiston and Newton hospitals every day to continue their jobs in order to help the town’s most vulnerable residents.

These guardians of the community are serving on the frontline under impossible pressure to save lives.

So we decided it was time to say ‘thank you’.

That is why the St Helens Star is launching an appeal to fundraise for the staff and carers who are working so hard during this challenging time.

Donations will be given directly to the Whiston and St Helens Hospital Charity.

St Helens Star:

ICU staff

After speaking at length to hospital staff, it has been decided that one of the ways this money will help staff during this crisis, is to provide a tuck shop for those working tirelessly across the hospitals, for example in A&E, ICU and respiratory wards as they cannot go out to get food and shops are now closed nearby.

Under the current climate, others cannot bring food to them so money would pay for the food and tuck shop to be kept going during this outbreak.

Any further funds would be used by the hospital where they need it the most.

In times like this it is so important we support each other, and who better to support right now than our St Helens NHS heroes.
