A FACEBOOK group which was launched at the weekend to help keep people's spirits up has amassed more than 2,500 followers already.

The 'St Helens Chasing Rainbows' group was started on Saturday and already has attracted thousands of members.

The page was launched by Karen Hart, from Portico and aims to help keep people smiling during the difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has encouraged people to produce artworks to get families together to keep their households busy while most are off school and work.

Participants have been asked to produce rainbows and put them on display in their windows for people to see.

There will be a change of theme for artworks each week.

People also have been posting supportive messages and sharing family photos to help each other out.

One family's rainbow-themed artworks

Founder Karen said: "We are going to change the theme each week. Some have done big pictures some have done small, it doesn't matter how old you are, everyone can take part.

"I have other people helping me approving posts and other admin duties.

"I have noticed even someone in Saudi Arabia is on the group. It's even putting smiles on postmen and women and delivery companies."

One of the admin Leanne Mather added: "Thousands of kids are getting involved and posting their family pics on the group page, it really is heartwarming to see.

"I was even thinking when this dreadful time has blown over we could collect everyone's artwork in and display it in our town."
