A 16-YEAR-OLD boy who was taken to hospital after falling ill in Prescot has passed away, police have confirmed.
The boy was taken to hospital on Saturday night after suffering a suspected allergic reaction after eating at Uno Pizza on Chapel Street in Prescot.
An investigation was launched jointly by Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council after the incident.
Emergency services had been called to Thomas Drive following reports the boy had collapsed after suffering a suspected allergic reaction.
In an official statement Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm the 16-year-old boy taken to hospital after falling ill in Prescot has passed away today, Wednesday, March 11.
"A joint Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council investigation remains ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."
A cordon was put in place at Uno Pizza while an investigation was carried out.
