SEVEN people have been injured in a crash that has closed the M6 this morning.

All lanes on the northbound carriageway are currently shut between junction 21 at Woolston and junction 21a at Croft due to a jack-knifed lorry.

A total of 10 vehicles, including two lorries and a van, were involved in the accident shortly after 8.30am.

Police, firefighters and paramedics are on the scene this morning.

The North West Ambulance Service has confirmed that an estimated seven people have been injured.

Two ambulances have been sent to the incident, but all casualties are believed to have suffered only minor injuries.

Motorists are warned to expect 'significant' delays, with queues tailing back to junction 20 at Lymm.

The M6 is expected to remain closed for several hours yet, with the crash having resulted in an oil spillage.

Diversions are in place via Woolston Grange Avenue and Birchwood Way.

Slow traffic is also reported on the southbound carriageway due to drivers slowing in order to look at the accident.
