WE'RE looking for St Helens' most inspirational women to celebrate International Women's Day.

For over a century International Women's Day has been celebrated on March 8.

This year International Women's Day falls on Sunday.

Since 1911 the day has been dedicated to celebrating the social, cultural and political achievements of women from across the world.

We all have someone that inspires us from our own mothers to artists and politicians and we are asking you to nominate a woman that you believe is inspirational.

Here we have listed five women who live and /or work in the borough who we believe are inspirational, but please tell us about the inspirational women in your life in who you deserve to get on the list.

1. Tami Garvey Jones

St Helens Star:

St Helens' police chief Superintendent Tami Garvey-Jones took over the reins from Louise Harrison at the end of April 2019 and has done a lot for the borough in a year, after serving more than 25 years with Merseyside Police in a number of roles, most recently as Chief Inspector in neighbouring Knowsley.

Not only is she a police chief, she is a mum, lives nearby and takes part in community events and classes.

2. Linzi Prescott

St Helens Star:

Mum-of-two Linzi Prescott from Eccleston, is a Trustee of the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF), the charity set up in 2007 by her husband former RL star Steve Prescott following his diagnosis with a rare abdominal cancer pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).

Since losing Steve in 2013, she has carried on his legacy and progressed the foundation that carries his name, which so far has raised millions for the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, The Christie Hospital in Manchester and the SPF Special Causes Fund.

She has also pushed her body to the limits by taking part in fundraising challenges such as trekking Mount Kilimanjaro and climbing to Everest Base camp.

3. Jeanie Bell

St Helens Star:

As well as being a councillor and a cabinet member for community safety, Jeanie Bell is also a mum-of-three and a brain tumour survivor.

As well as keeping up with her three daughters and her political duties as councillor, she has also been battling with two brain tumours.

Rather than retreating into the safety of home, she has written a blog about her journey and treatment and established a support group for others with brain tumours.

4. Jodie Cunningham

St Helens Star:

Jodie shows that anyone can overcome difficulty.

Not only is she skipper of Saints' Women's team, she also represented England despite a severe injury to her ACL and being given on a five per cent chance of being able to play.

She regularly puts her heart and soul on the pitch and is also a women's ambassador for the Rugby League World Cup 2021.

5. Shana Begum

St Helens Star:

Shana with her children

Shana is a mum-of-three who 15 months ago arrived in St Helens with nothing but her children and a pram after fleeing honour based domestic violence.

Rather than let it define her, and after tremendous support from the St Helens community, Shana now offers support to other survivors and victims of domestic abuse in all its forms.

Please add your inspirational St Helens women below and tell us why you want to celebrate them on International Women's Day.
