THE St Helens 10k is an arduous course, but the sun was out on Sunday, March 1 to make sure everyone felt like a winner as they crossed that finish line, regardless of their time.
The tenth annual GPW St Helens 10k saw hundredss of runners, regardless of experience, brave the tough challenge and the dreaded trek up North Road for a spectacular day of racing, fundraising and grit.
The event has come a long way since its birth in 2011 in Birchley Street car park, and the glorious weather drew support from fantastic crowds both in the Totally Wicked Stadium and along the route, particularly on North Road itself.
Highlights included:
- The fantastic Batala drummers spurring on the runners
- Former Castleford rugby league player Wayne Godwin running in tiny underpants with a Yorkshire rose on the back
- The team of intrepid runners, led by former Thatto heath amateur rugby league player and under 10s coach Ste Woods, who ran 100k in 10 days, with the St Helens 10k being their final event
- Adam Alderson, a man who successfully underwent the same operation as the late Steve Prescott, taking on the 10k in its 10th year – thus highlighting what money raised from the event can go on to achieve.
