IT just wasn’t to be for Saints on Saturday in the World Club Challenge.

They had their chances, particularly in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, but sport and finals are so often decided by the margins and this was the case here.

Perhaps, if they had not been shorn of three frontline threequarters it would have been a different story.

Nevertheless, it was a night for the Saints players and everyone connected with the club to hold their heads high.

They went toe-to-toe with a great Australian side and the club staged a marvellous spectacle, which contributed to an awesome atmosphere. It bodes well ahead of the stadium being a host venue for the Rugby League World Cup 2021.

- Good luck to everyone running in the St Helens 10K on Sunday. It will be the 10th time the race has been run and the success of the event deserves to be celebrated.

There were some who thought the event, created by Steve Prescott and his foundation in 2011, would be short-lived.

But it has grown to be a much-loved part of the community’s calendar and has been the springboard for many people to take up running and live healthier lifestyles.
