A CANNABIS farm with an estimated annual yield of £396,000 was uncovered in Whiston yesterday.

Officers located the plants at a property on Walpole Avenue, Whiston at around 4pm on Monday, February 24 following the execution of a drug warrant.

Police responded to community concerns around the property which was found to have a significant number of cannabis plants inside.

A 40-year-old man from Whiston has been arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and abstracting electricity.

The electricity meter to the property had been tampered with which presents a safety risk.

The police are now working with the energy provider to make the power supply safe again.

The investigation is ongoing at this time as officers continue to make enquiries with the owners of the property whilst the property remains a scene at this time.
