TWO fire stations in St Helens have been listed for sale on property websites.

St Helens Community Fire Station, off Parr Stocks Road, Parr and Eccleston Fire Station, Millfields are on the market.

As previously reported, the stations will close as part of a merger that will see a new "super station" open on former Pilkington land off Milverny Way, St Helens - close to Ravenhead Retail Park.

Parr Stocks station, the headquarters for the town’s fire crews, is listed for sale at £600,000 on some commercial sites, although other sites suggest a price will be quoted on request.

The building is a two storey fire station which opened in 1959 on a 2.3acre site. Internal photos show the station includes a gym area

Zoopla lists the station as being suitable for residential or commercial redevelopment.

The station at Millfields, meanwhile, is on a site measuring nearly one acre, next to Mill Dam, Eccleston.

It is also listed as being suitable for residential or commercial development. The land is adjacent to the former Triplex site, which has been developed to create the Eccleston Grange housing development and a parade of shops and businesses, including a Sainsbury’s Local.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue service confirmed its estates department had listed the stations for sale: “The fire stations on Parr Stocks Road, St Helens and Millfields, Eccleston, have been placed on the market, with bids being taken ahead of the completion of the new station in St Helens.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority approved plans to push ahead with a new station in 2015 following public consultation.
