A MAN aged in his 70s died at at Newton-le-Willows station on Monday morning, police have said.
The Star reported on the tragedy earlier this week after a person died on the tracks.
Police and ambulance crews had been called at 6.15am.
Today (Friday) Merseyside Police confirmed the person who died was a man aged in his 70s.
His name has not been released at this stage.
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to Newton-le-Willows station at 6.15am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’’
An inquest will be held into the man's death.
