THE landlord of a town-centre pub has helped to raise £1,000 for adults with learning difficulties.

Andrew Wharf, from the Lower Angel in Buttermarket Street, presented the money to Warrington Mencap after recently revealing the grand total.

Andrew raises funds for a different charity each year over the festive period.

Last year, Lower Angel customers purchased white pompoms, handmade by Andrew, to pin on Father Christmas and create his white beard.

Nikki Cotter, assistant manager at Warrington Mencap said: "We’ve been absolutely blown away by the generosity of both Andrew and his customers.

"Andrew puts so much care and attention into his fundraising; he is a real credit to the town.

"This generous donation will be a huge boost to our charity and will go directly towards the adults with learning disabilities we work with in supporting them to lead independent and meaningful lives, a huge thank you to Andrew and all the regulars at The Lower Angel."
