A MAN was taken to hospital with a head injury after violence broke out outside a pub.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance outside The Vulcan pub on Robins Lane, Sutton on Sunday evening (February 9).

Officers arrested a man on suspicion of wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 6.15pm last night (Sunday, February 9) to reports of a disturbance outside the Vulcan public house on Robins Lane in St Helens.

"A 57 year-old man was taken to hospital suffering from a head injury. He has since been discharged from hospital.

"A 32 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He remains in custody where he will be questioned by detectives."
