BRITISH Transport Police has confirmed that a person has died on the tracks at Newton-le-Willows station this morning (Monday, February 10).
Officers and ambulance attended the station this morning to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
A person was found dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to Newton-le-Willows station at 6.15am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’’
The incident affected trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester.
Services running out of stations such as Lea Green, St Helens Junction, Newton-le-Willows and Earlestown were affected.
Lines have since been reopened.
