MUSICIANS from across the borough have teamed up to host a one-off show to highlight the issue of homelessness and help a charity that does all it can to help people in need.

The event – Beat the Streets – will be hosted at Ravenhead Social Club next month, with St Helens artists The Messiahs, Jack Bennett of Stillia, Kiera Weathers, The Patriots, The Alleys, Polker, Andy Wood and Ian Roberts coming together to put on a show in aid of homeless charity Teardrops.

Teardrops is a homeless support charity based on Crab Street which is run entirely by donations.

They also help families and individuals in crisis.

Describing why they decided to do this, singer Salty of Messiahs, said: “We’re in a good position as musicians to be able to do things like this. To raise money for good causes. Homelessness is something that gets massively overlooked too often, so anything I can do to help, I will. It’s gonna be good day man.”

Daz Owen, manager of both The Patriots and The Alleys, added: “The best part of St Helens is the music and the worst is the homelessness. We’re hoping to combine both ends of this and create something good.”

Mandy Miller, of St Helens-based Classy Cuts hairdressers, which is supporting the event, added: “All the money goes to Teardrops , they have trustees that all decide we’re the money goes.

“Teardrops need a minimum of £2,000 a month and that is just the bills and rent but in Teardrops they feed the guys, have computers and stuff to help them get on the housing list and if they run out of stuff that people donate such as food toiletries etc they then buy them for the hub.

“They clothe them, run them to doctors appointments and assessments and stuff and if they are going court sometimes they will go with them and support them.

“They don’t just feed the homeless they help the less fortunate, families that struggle and they get no funding.”

The event will take place at the Alexandra Drive venue on Saturday, February 8 from 1pm. Tickets for the event cost £5 per adult and children’s tickets are £2 each.

There will also be acoustic sets and an open mic, with a set from DJ Jimmy Fingers alongside food and bar, raffles and more.

Parking is limited.
