A FUGITIVE who posted a taunting social media post to police has been arrested.

Wanted Sean Leyland, from Thatto Heath, had been urged to turn himself in by officers who had made a number of attempts to "convince him to surrender".

However, Leyland, who was wanted on suspicion of a breach of a court order from September 19, in relation to domestic offences of harassment, posted a taunting message about his whereabouts on Facebook.

His post stated: "Its Wednesday near 2oclock if u know u know an they dont know".

However, this backfired as police traced him to a location in West Derby, Liverpool where he was arrested.

A post from St Helens Police said: "He most recently claimed yesterday we didn't know..? Well we did... Leyland was traced to a location in the Liverpool area where we attended and arrested him, right on time."

It added: "'... It's Wednesday near 2 O'clock if u know u know and we did know...'"

They added the hashtag #CantRunForever.

A Merseyside Police spokesman confirmed the 29-year-old had been arrested and is due to appear in court tomorrow (Friday) over the alleged breach of a court order.
