ST HELENS' Labour candidates are expected to keep hold of their seats in the general election, according to a major poll released last night, Wednesday.

Figures in YouGov's MRP poll found that in St Helens North Conor McGinn is expected to receive 48 per cent of the constituency's vote.

The Conservative candidate Joe Charles is second at 27 per cent, according to the poll with The Brexit Party's Malcolm Webster in third at 14 per cent.

The Liberal Democrats' Pat Maloney is estimated at six per cent and the Greens' David van der Burg on four per cent.

Meanwhile, in St Helens South and Whiston, incumbent Marie Rimmer is predicted to win by a more comfortable majority, estimated to receive 54 per cent of the votes.

The Conservatives' Richard Short is in second on 20 per cent. The Brexit Party's Daniel Oxley is predicted to be in third on 14 per cent.

Liberal Democrats candidate ex-council leader Brian Spencer is predicted to receive six per cent and The Greens' Kai Taylor is predicted to be on five per cent.

The YouGov MRP poll is based on 105,612 interviews carried out over seven days up to Wednesday.

Nationally, a majority for the Conservative Party of 28 seats is predicted, although the lead has narrowed from the 68-seat majority predicted in the MRP poll two weeks ago.
