"I WILL always listen and always do my best. I can promise that and that I will do it with honesty," those are the words of Labour candidate Marie Rimmer ahead of the general election 2020, where she is standing for what would be her third term as an MP.

Since being voted in to represent St Helens South and Whiston in 2015, Marie has been an outspoken MP for the community.

However, since the Brexit vote, her remain stance has caused some voters to question where her loyalties lie.

Marie wants to explain her reasoning and why voting is so important on December 12 this year.

She said: "I did vote remain and I voted for Article 50 and was in favour of that to honour that vote.

"My intention was to get a good, sound Brexit to make jobs secure and work alongside Europe but that didn’t come off.

"The Prime Minister at the time (Theresa May) was wrong, she kept it to herself not even with the cabinet.

"But seeing how it went on I couldn’t support that proposal.

"I will not support anything that will make this community worse off.

"We have suffered enough and its my job to use my best judgement, and with all that in mind, I will not vote for anything that will not benefit St Helens.

"If I’m wrong, then hold me responsible, but when it comes to Brexit we were all misinformed.

"We were told ‘£350 million for the health service’ and ‘we’ll be Great Britain again tomorrow’ and that is wrong.

"It was absolute nonsense.

"So that’s why we all must vote. This is a democracy, make your own minds up, but please consider what is on offer from the parties around today and the impact on your families and communities.

"What is the world we live in with America and Putin in Russia and now we have our own.

"Jeremy Corbyn cares about people and wears his heart on his sleeve, he is honest and does not ridicule anyone despite him having so much ridicule hurled at himself, and how he tolerates that I don’t know.

"And he listens. Give me Jeremy Corbyn any day to that fella that is Prime Minister still at the minute."

On her own standing she adds: "I care about this town and community.

"I’m passionate about people and these communities and I work hard for them whatever way they vote.

"I will always listen and always do my best. I can promise that and that I will do it with honesty.

"But most importantly I want to tell your readers to please go out and vote.

"Think about your families and the impact your decisions can have to a community like ours."
