AWARDS were handed out to traders and a volunteer at Neston Christmas Market last week.

A special recognition award was handed to Neston Market volunteer Val Jones for her dedication to the event and Tinsley's Fruit and Veg was handed Trader of the Year.

At a festive Neston Christmas Market on Friday, December 6, there was tasty food treats and entertainment from pupils of Neston High School, St Winefrides Primary School and Woodfall Primary School as well as Neston Singers.

Refreshments were also provided in the Town Hall by the Neston Fairtrade Town Group.

The Christmas market saw Tinsley's Fruit and Veg presented a special trader award by the mayor and his deputy.

First beginning 70 years ago, family business Tinsely's is now run by Howard, Julie and Ben.

Their produce is collected fresh daily from two local farms.

Elsewhere a second 'Special Recognition' award was presented to Val Jones from Bluebonnet Sweets.

Val volunteers to run the Neston Market Facebook page on behalf of the traders and since she has undertaken the task the page has gone from strength to strength.

The prize for the ‘Most Festive Stall’ was presented jointly to Carmatara Jewellery and Digger & Dozer handmade dog accessories.

A spokeswoman for Neston Town Council said: "The market was a great start to the festive season, following on from the fantastic Christmas Lights switch on event at the weekend.

"The weather was very kind to us and the atmosphere was buzzing."

The last Foodie Friday event of the year at Neston Market will take place on Friday, December 20 to give shoppers chance to stock up artisan produce, gifts and fresh fruit and vegetables closer to Christmas day.
