BURGLARS stole a man's car while he slept upstairs in the early hours.

At around 2am on Friday, November 22, two offenders dressed all in white, forced entry to a house on Lemon Tree Walk, off Prescot Road, before making off with car keys, a grey VW Golf GTI Performance, a North Face jacket and two watches.

The victim, Kevin Hagan, 58, who was sleeping upstairs said: "I heard nothing, it was only at 3am when I got up and looked out the window that I realised my car had gone.

"I ran downstairs and saw the door as open and that someone had drilled the barrel of my lock off.

"They took my car keys, two watches and even my North Face Jacket then drove off in my car.

"I'd only had the car four months, the keys weren't on show, but the officers even said, coming in like they did they were determined to get the car.

"I wish I'd have been awake to confront the scumbags who did this, but then again maybe I'm lucky I wasn't.

"There are people in St Helens who work hard for what they have, it's cowardly and horrible when people decide it's fine to take things that don't belong to them.

"I just want to warn others, be aware and if you can put your cars out of sight, if it's a decent one they just want them."

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area, or a car fitting the description, is asked to contact police.
