ACCORDING to one of the directors of Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre’s new show, A New Generation, it will help to introduce a new generation of performers to the society. It will also introduce them, and the audience, to a new generation of musicals.

Jonny Cunliffe is one of four directors of this showcase of musical favourites, each responsible for their own section.

The same applies to choreographer, Lindsay King, who joins him to talk about a show she describes as containing songs people will recognise and others which are brand new.

The show will present extracts from Fame and Matilda; new musicals from the West End and a Christmas section featuring songs from Elf and Nativity.

Lindsay said: ”There are some particularly good dance numbers in Fame and Elf.”

Jonny said: “We got some of our talented group of 24 children from our normal theatre group, some from last year’s youth production of Grease plus a good response from social media.

“Our youngest three members are eight-years-old and our oldest is 18.

There will be a backing track for each musical.

“We have many experienced singers. They are all good individually and as a collective,” said Jonny.

It will be the first time both cast and audience have heard numbers from the Tony and Grammy award winning Dear Evan Hansen and Everybody’s talking about Jamie, about a schoolboy who hopes to become a drag queen.

Jonny said: “The audience will be gobsmacked.

Lindsay said: “There is something for everyone especially with the dancing.”

A New Generation will be presented at Altrincham Little Theatre from 4th – 7th December with a Saturday matinee. Tickets, priced £10, from ticketsource.co.uk/sale-altrincham-musical-theatre.
