Residents and motorists are advised that the vehicle weight restriction on Hinckley Road is being temporarily lifted due to the carriageway collapse on Chain Lane.

Vehicle access to Chain Lane is being diverted via Hinckley Road and Merton Bank Road.

To maintain delivery access to shops on Chain Lane, and avoid the low height bridges on Laffak Road and Woodlands Road, the temporary diversion must use Hinckley Road.

The 7.5t environmental weight limit signs on Hinckley Road will be temporarily covered for the duration of the emergency closure.

United Utilities, who have been working at the site since Tuesday, hope that works will be completed at the weekend.

A spokesman for United Utilities said: "The road is still closed.

"We are in the process of repairing a collapsed sewer, that is the reason the road has been closed.

"We have given extra resources with the aim to have the work completed and the road reopened during the weekend.

"We've got the extra resources to hopefully get that done before the children return to school."
