A MAN and woman have been arrested in connection with thefts including from DW Sports in St Helens town centre.

A 37-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were arrested in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, October 24) after police attended a property on New Hall, Road, Prescot.

Officers say suspects were found hiding behind a bed in the property at around 3am.

Police say the investigation has seen help from Cleveland Police in the North East over what they call "a high value burglary" where a large quantity of cigarettes was stolen from a business premises in that area.

Officers say they fund the two suspects who have previously been arrested in connection with the Cleveland investigation and with two further allegations, including of theft from DW Sports in St Helens on Tuesday, October 8.

Knowsley Police say two vehicles have been seized as part of their investigation following the theft of fuel on Thursday, September 19 from a service station in Preston.

They say the man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and of theft and of making off without payment.

Both suspects remain in custody, officers added.
