SAINTS fans have been expressing their thanks and good luck messages as coach Justin Holbrook left the country to return back to Australia.

The outgoing coach departed from Manchester Airport on Monday to many well wishes as he goes to take over Gold Coast Titans in the NRL.

The Saints coach has transformed the club's fortunes since taking over in May 2017, improving the team's results and the style of rugby on the pitch.

His time in charge culminated fittingly with the Super League Grand Final victory over Salford earlier this month.

Holbrook also won two consecutive League Leaders' Shields, with the team finishing a record 16 points clear at the summit in 2019, losing only three league games all season.

The Australian has also been renowned for the role he has played in the wider community, helping to reconnect the club with the town to leave a legacy beyond the achievements of the team on the rugby pitch.

Supporters have expressed their best wishes and thanks to Justin for his impact on the team and the town.

Ian Guest said: "Safe journey home Justin thanks for all you did for the club putting us back where we belong and good luck at the Titans. I'm sure you will turn them around as you did us but always a place here for you at Saints".

Susan Smethurst added: "Have a safe journey, thank you for all you did at Saints and good luck in your new role and for the future".

Meanwhile, Donna Bickerstaffe wrote: "At the end of one Saints match, when you could honestly see that Justin had done his rounds of interviews, autographs, selfies etc and he just wanted to head back down that tunnel, I’d like to thank his little boys who tugged on his shirt and said: 'Dad, that girl has been shouting you for ages' pointing to my daughter Sophie.

"He came over to have his photo taken with her and she was made up.

"Thank you Justin. For igniting the fire behind this team, his guidance and support gave them the little push they needed to come out as a force to be reckoned with.

"My personal favourite was the semi final against Wigan. Absolute belter of a game.

"It was his team that has turned my girls into little Saints superfans".

And Phil A Brow added: "Can't believe you are on that metal bird heading back home to Aus, you really are one of the nicest genuine guys I've ever known and I really hope you turn around the Titans just like you did at Saints. Good luck Justin and family. Safe journey home".

Ally Talbot said: "I met Justin at the Mother’s Day event at the stadium! He is such a lovely guy. Good luck back in Australia. Thanks for all you’ve done for our town and club".
