HAYDOCK Male Voice Choir are celebrating after being crowned the overall winners of the Isle of Man Festival of Choirs beating other worthy competitors from across the UK.

Over the weekend, Haydock's 30 plus strong choir came together in the Isle of Man to test their singing skills against the best across the UK and Ireland.

The competition is split into four categories: Ladies Choir, Male Choir, Mixed Voice Choir and Open Voice Choir who compete on the Saturday..

The winners of each section then compete on the Sunday against each other to be crowned the Choir of the Festival.

In previous years, Haydock Male Voice Choir have done very well in winning the Male Choir category and also placing second, but have never won the Choir of the Festival, however this year they did and celebrated in style.

Choir secretary Alan Weston, said: "For Haydock MVC to win the Choir of the Festival Award is absolutely fantastic.

"It was something that we didn't expect to win but we are elated of course to have this title.

"This is the first time we have won this award and we are very proud."

N Haydock Male Voice Choir are now back on home turf and will performing their winning songs, plus more alongside Dunvant Male Voice Choir from Swansea Wales on Saturday, November 2 at 7.30pm.

The event at St Helens Town Hall will start at 7.30pm.
