A YOUNG child star is in the running to be cast in the lead role of an upcoming film.

The Luna Squad is a film series to be produced as a series for Amazon Prime and directed by Leon Mitchell.

The fun adventure film has been described as going to be similar to cult classic The Goonies.

Ten-year-old Kizzie Kay Mather, from Clock Face, has been shortlisted among the final 10 out of 5,000 applicants for the lead role.

St Theresa's pupil Kizzie enjoys performing and takes part in dance, cheerleading, tumbles, acting and modelling.

Described by mum Leanne as "born to be a performer" and who has "always been a happy and confident little girl", Kizzie started gymnastics at the age of four.

She then wanted to take skills into cheerleading and became a flyer for the Sutton Tornados cheer squad.

Kizzie is a student at Watch This Space Dance Company and has already been lucky enough to dance in many theatres including London's West End and Disneyland Paris.

Since she signed for an agency in January, Kizzie has also been working for the BBC appearing in The Worst Witch, The4 O'clock Club and The a Word.

When Kizzie came across an advertisement for castings for The Luna squad coming out in 2020, she saw it as the perfect opportunity.

St Helens Star:

Kizzie

Mum Leanne says when Kizzie read the briefing, she knew she wanted to apply straight away as the character was so similar to herself and the movie was just the sort of thing she loves to watch.

And she has been shortlisted having caught the eye of the Cinalight team with her backflips and awesome dance moves.

"A few months went by until we heard back that Kizzie had been shortlisted and was in the last 10 out of 5,000 actors that applied," said Leanne.

"Kizzie is now preparing for her audition staying focused and taking everything in her stride.

Kizzie's audition is on October 30 in London and we are so proud of her no matter what the outcome, it's a massive achievement to get so far."

Leanne added: "The director is showing huge interested in Kizzie and we are really excited. Kizzie might not get through but whatever the out come we are extremely proud of how far she has made it up to this stage. Kizzie caught the eye of the Cinalight team with her backflips and awesome dance moves."

The Luna Squad, which will be out next year, will see the leading cast form a group and release a single to be released worldwide.
