Two lanes were closed on the M6 between Junction 23 at Haydock and Junction 24 at Ashton-in-Makerfield due to a pothole on the road surface.

Motorway police attended and maintenance workers were sent to the scene and Highways England apologised for the disruption.

Shortly before 10am, Highways England said: "The road surface has been repaired and the lanes have been re-opened.

"Thanks for your patience and understanding this morning. Have a safe onward journey."
