NEIGHBOURS are celebrating after scooping a share of an incredible £240,000 prize.

Eight residents of a Blackrod street each received a cheque for £30,000 after their postcode was announced as a winner of the People's Postcode Lottery.

Daniel Watkins, 28, was one of the winners in Fryent Close and already has plans for his prize money.

He said: “When the cheque was being pulled out the envelope, I couldn’t believe how many zeros there were. I’ve never won anything in my life and I’ve only been playing for about a year. I can buy whatever I want now.

"My first purchase though has got to be a new car. Things keep going wrong with it so I really want to treat myself to a new one. I will also treat my sister to something nice."

Mr Watkins says he's going to try his chances again in the lucky draw: "I’m definitely going to keep playing as I’ve got as much chance of winning again as I did before, so fingers crossed for another knock at the door in the future.”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judy McCourt, went to Blackrod to present Mr Watkins with his cheque.

She said: “It was a pleasure to meet Daniel and hand over his cheque.

"His eyes lit up when he saw how much he had won. It’s great to hear he can now buy himself a new set of wheels and something nice for his sister.

"I hope each of the eight winners enjoy spending their prize money.”

The money raised in this draw contributed to the British Red Cross, which has received more than £3 million in funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
