A COUPLE from Bolton became the stars of the small screen as cameras followed their ‘wedding day that went wrong’.

Dean and Kayleigh Sampson, both 24 and from Tonge Moor, had their big day broadcast on TV show Don’t Tell the Bride, where the groom is left in charge of planning a wedding in just three weeks.

But perfectionist Kayleigh found herself pushed to her limits as her future husband made it his mission to plan a wedding full of disasters - including a vicar being set on fire and a wedding cake made from a car tyre.

Dean, who has been in a relationship with Kayleigh for two years, drew his inspiration from The Play That Goes Wrong, orchestrating a host of elaborate pranks with the help of his mischievous best man.

Kayleigh said: “It was disastrous. He organised a trip to a petting farm for my hen do, we had to muck out a pig sty!

"When the limo arrived to take me to the wedding, it was dirty and full of pizza boxes but at that point I just wanted to get to the wedding, I was already three hours late.”

The nightmare continued when the bride finally arrived at the venue.

Dean explained: “I really wanted to set someone on fire during the wedding, so we hired a stunt man to play the vicar and as he was pronouncing us husband and wife, his arm caught fire and he set alight.”

Speaking after the show, which aired on E4 last night, Kayleigh said: “I was angry that some things went wrong but I had to give it to him — it’s tough to plan a wedding in three weeks. Dean is not organised at all, it has taken him three weeks to organise a bowling trip before.

“When I saw him at the altar and he explained what the theme was, it all made sense and it was a big relief. I absolutely loved The Play That Goes Wrong, so it was perfect.”

Mr Sampson said he would not have changed anything about the day, now a happy memory for the couple: “I got all the important bits right like the dress. That’s something I was adamant about."

"As long as Kayleigh felt good, everything else she could get over.”
