ON a recent visit to Cambridge Road I was appalled at the state of the litter covering the street and surrounding ones.

Have people no shame? Why don’t residents and shopkeepers pick it up?

A lot of it blows out of those pathetic plastic bags and boxes the council give people to put their paper and plastic rubbish in.

On a windy day the bags and boxes blow over.

I’ve never seen a town covered with so much litter.
Secondly the blight of illegal,  rude and lazy parking is making this town a nightmare to drive around and for pedestrians and disabled people or those with guide dogs.

Very few roads can accommodate two-way traffic due to cars parked on both sides.

I’ve also lost count of residents who refuse to use their drive but park on the pavement.

The latest offenders are the row of new houses where Hard Lane meets City Road.

There is ample parking provided at the back of these houses yet a whole row of them facing City Road choose to park all four wheels on the public footpath in front of their houses.

It’s sheer laziness and utter arrogance. If people are going to behave like this where is the enforcement to stop them?

The council say they have no money, they could make a fortune in fines. People’s standards and inconsideration are at an all time low in my opinion.
