A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of offences including drink and drug driving after reports of a driver pulling up to various different people in Rainhill.

It was also reported the driver, who was in a Volvo, briefly grabbed a woman by the arm during the incident on Monday afternoon (September 23) on Rainhill Road.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 2.15pm.

A 39-year-old man from Whiston was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving and of common assault in relation to the alleged incident with the woman.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and other offences following an incident yesterday afternoon, Monday, September 23.

"At around 2.15pm, a call was received that a male driver had been pulling up to various members of the public while driving a Volvo in the area of Rainhill Road.

"It was reported that he briefly took hold of a woman by the arm during this incident.

"Following enquiries, a 39-year-old man from Whiston was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving, and common assault.

"He has been taken to a police station for questioning and witness enquiries continue."
