ST HELENS Theatre Royal has had an exciting 'Strictly' substitution after a former dancer from the hit BBC show stepped into the lead role.

Viewers of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing were shocked after Only Way is Essex star Jamie Laing announced that due to an injury, he would not be able to take part in the show.

His replacement was soon found in former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.

However, he was set to lead the Christmas pantomime at St Helens Theatre Royal as Aladdin.

On Thursday show bosses confirmed a Strictly swap has taken place and professional dancer Robin Windsor from the show will be taking Kelvin's place.

Announcing the news via Instagram today, St Helens Theatre Royal said: "We are delighted to announce that Strictly Come Dancing’s Robin Windsor will be waltzing on to our stage in the title role of Aladdin this Christmas.

"The dance professional replaces the previously announced former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher, who has joined this year’s Strictly line-up as a late addition after Jamie Laing had to withdraw due to injury.

"Catch Robin and all our wonderful cast when Aladdin flies in to Theatre Royal from Sat 7 Dec – Sun 12 Jan."

The first live show of Strictly Come Dancing – starring Kelvin – will take start on Saturday, September 21.
