PLANS to develop the former Havana bar building have been approved.

Proposals were submitted to St Helens Council for the building at 8 to 12 Ormskirk Street, St Helens.

The application, drawn up by Clifford White, sought the conversion of the building.

Plans included to turn the "existing mixed use building" into ground floor use for unspecified "professional services", with "nine self-contained residential flats above".

The proposals were granted permission by planning officers.

The Star has recently reported on a number of planning applications by various developers for residential developments in the town centre, including the floors above the former WH Smith store and above a hardware store on Duke Street.

Meanwhile, the Nico Group has unveiled its latest project on Barrow Street, called Nicholson Plaza which includes a striking façade with twelve one-bedroom apartments.
