IN response to the photo of the Gamble Institute in the St Helens Star (September 12).
I always smile with pride when I walk up the stairway in there and see the photo of my great, great Uncle Henry Ratcliffe Lacey with Sir David Gamble on the wall.
Henry was one of the founder members of the Mechanics Institute in the late 19th century and was head of the Libraries Committee for many years.
His brother, Newton, was Head of Cowley School around the same time.
I hope the Gamble building will be preserved as it has so much history.
