A VIKING market will be among the attractions at the Smithy heritage centre this weekend.

The Smithy Heritage Centre on Kiln Lane, Eccleston will be taking part in Heritage Open Days on Saturday and Sunday (September 14 and 15).

To accompany the venue's Viking exhibition, there will be a Viking market.

There will also be 're-enactors' and the chance to come and learn the Viking game of strategy, Hnefatafl.

There will be craft activities for children and there will be refreshments including home made cakes to sample.

The event runs from 11am to 5pm on both days.

Meanwhile, budding bakers can come to the Smithy as it hosts the seventh Great Eccleston Bake Off on Sunday (September 15). Submissions need to be made between midday and 3pm.

The judging will be carried out by members of the St Helens WI.
