PLANS for a monthly street food festival in St Helens town centre are in the pipeline.

George Street Eats is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 28, between 5.30pm and 9.30pm.

St Helens Council has released limited details on the event, which is subject to licensing approval, at this stage – but promotional teasers suggest it would involve food stalls, an outdoor bar and live music. Entry would be free.

The George Street Quarter, which is near St Helens Central train station, is home to a host of restaurants including Mexican venue Sabroso, noodle bar Bento Box, Indian restaurant Ba'bursi and tapas venue La Casa Vieja.

Leisure and tourism bosses have long-held ambitions to turn the area into a cultural area and are keen to attract other venues to locate there.

St Helens Council says more detailed plans will be announced soon.
