HERE is the team line-up of the St Helens Under 14s schoolboys side which came up against future Liverpool legend Phil Thompson in a cup final.
The team lose to Kirkby schoolboys in the Snowden Cup Final 3-2 on aggregate after they led 2-1 after the first leg at St Cuthbert’s.
Alan Shea headed them in front before Kirkby equalised. Midway through the second half a harassed Kirkby defender beat his own goalkeeper from 30 yards to restore St Helens' advantage.
The second leg saw a courageous performance end in heartbreak as two late Kirkby goals snatched the cup.
Among the Kikby line-up was future Liverpool star Phil Thompson.
Mel Moran has shared the line-up picture with the Star.
He says the line-up in the picture is:
Back row left to right: Malc Leahy, Albert Bridge, Keith Mercer, Mel Moran, Graham Conway, Kenny Thompson, Ken Halsall, Graham Heyes and Bern Owen.
Front row left to right: Frank Mather, Ray Davies, Alan Shea, George Sheen and Dave Powell.
