Gym members will get the chance to test out the new fitness suite, the first completed phase of a £4.2m transformation at the centre, which includes 90 new pieces of equipment including top names like Wattbike along with an extensive free weight area over two floors.

Along with the new equipment the gym will now open from 6.30am Monday to Friday.

Later this month the Les Mills immersive spin studio will also open its doors to the public, only the second of its kind in the North West, offering a different way of exercising.

Visitors can also look forward to a revamped reception are, a new group exercise studio and a modern, spacious changing village for swimmers.

Completing the transformation will be the opening of Willowbees soft play centre and café later this year. The soft play centre will be open to children under the age of 11 and will also include three party rooms for parties.

Cllr Anthony Burns, cabinet member for public health, libraries and leisure, said: “This is a really exciting time as we see Newton Health and Fitness Centre go through this huge transformation which will offer unrivalled facilities for gym lovers and novices alike.

"With these works we want to make getting active easy for everyone and this redevelopment will offer something for everyone. So if you’ve never been to a gym before why not use this as an opportunity to find out more.”
