A SUSPECT who was arrested after a man was hit on the head in an assault outside a property has been bailed by police.

A 24-year-old man was struck to the head outside a house on Bourne Gardens, Peasley Cross and a door of the property was also damaged.

The offender then smashed windows at another address before making off on foot.

Police attended after they received a report of the attack shortly before 5.45am.

A suspect was located by officers on nearby Sherdley Road a short time later.

A 30-year-old man from Sutton Manor has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

The man has since been released on conditional bail, a police spokeswoman said.

The 30-year-old man, who had sustained minor facial injuries, was taken to Whiston Hospital where he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty and a public order offence.

After being released from hospital he was further arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
