The competition is described as "a pageant with a difference" and aims to raise awareness about ocean and marine life and plastic pollution.

It merges a beauty contest with a scuba diving contest to help raise awareness for marine conservation and celebrate the inner beauty of women.

Miss Scuba aims to get more women to take part in scuba diving, believing that when they see the beauty under the water, they will want to help protect it.

Beth, from Hard Lane, said: "Miss Scuba is totally different I think it's definitely more me.

"It's all about raising awareness and changing peoples thoughts on their plastic footprints, how it's affecting our environment and especially our underwater world.

My first try dive was amazing. I did panic a little at first but then I loved it, I actually can't wait to get in the water again!

Beth also fundraised for Deptherapy, a scuba charity that runs scuba diving programmes for wounded, injured and sick serving UK Armed Service personnel and veterans to help them search the vast oceans.

"Now I get to go to Fuerteventura diving in a month's time. Out of three 3 of us one will then be crowned Miss Scuba uk then go on to compete in Malaysia in November."
