HERE are a selection of photographs from Saturday's Lol Pennington Cup Crown Green Bowls challenge at Ruskin Drive.
Torrential downpours did not prevent the star-studded line-up turning out in good spirit for the event in memory of Laurence ‘Lol’ Pennington, the dad of comedian and actor Johnny Vegas who died in 2017, on what would have been his 88th birthday.

The Barton Pickles JV Crown Green Bowls Challenge took place at Ruskin Sports Village on Saturday afternoon as members of the public joined forces with the celebs on the bowling mat.

While the rain may have thrown it down, this did nothing to deter those taking part on the bowling green on a day of fun and laughter.

Famous faces who hit the green included Johnny himself; Ricky Tomlinson Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle; chef Simon Rimmer; dual-code rugby star Jason Robinson and Saints and rugby league stars past and present including Louie McCarthy Scarsbrook, James Roby, Paul Wellens, Danny Sculthorpe, Lee Briers, Saints coach Justin Holbrook and Warrington Wolves coach Steve Price.

Following, the event, Johnny said on Twitter: “Dad, the craic was plentiful today and the smile you shared so freely certainly lives on. G’night Pops.”
