POLICE are investigating after a shed was torched in a suspected arson on Sunday night (August 11).

Emergency services were called to Peckers Hill Road, Sutton to reports of a shed being alight in a property garden at around 10.45pm.

Fire officers extinguished the blaze and no-one was in the shed at the time, with no injuries sustained from the incident.

There was also damage caused to a front window.

Police say an investigation is underway with the fire being treated as a suspected arson.

Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: "Thankfully this incident didn't result in any injuries, but the potential for harm to be done to anyone in the vicinity is clear to see.

"We initially believe that this incident is targeted but our enquiries are ongoing. We are keen to speak with anyone with information or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around 10.30pm.

"We will take action on all information you provide to find those responsible for endangering the community in such a reckless way."

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "Two fire engines attended. On arrival crews found a shed well alight, this had spread to the gable end of the property.

"Crews used a high pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"Fire crews left the scene at 11.36pm."

Police say CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.
